For the third time Alta Badia Wine Cup offers the top-quality wine tastings combined with scenic routes around the peaks surrounding Corvara. It starts on Tuesday, January 8 and will last until the 18. Snowshoeing, skisafari up to 2800 meters altitude, snowcat tour and sampling of such renowned wines as Ornellaia, Solaia and Sassicaia, as well as the craft beers paired with the traditional dishes at the South Tyrolean restaurant Stüa Ladina of the Sporthotel Panorama are waiting for you.
The 2019 begins with the toast from the Wine Cup Alta Badia at high altitude. Michael Costamoling, the owner of the Sporthotel Panorama in Corvara and the organizer of the event, has designed the program balancing and harmonizing the pleasure from the mountains and that from the fine wines. Starting from the January 8, the ski runs around the Unesco World Heritage Dolomites and wine tastings will be taking place for the following 10 days in different locations, from the Stüa Ladina restaurant, to the Punta Trieste hut (2028 m), Piz Arlara (2040 m), the Cherz (2088 m), and all the way up to 2758 m of the Lagazuoi. Guided excursions with snowshoes and skisafari are designed for those who are familiar with the mountain environment. They also retrace some of the historical routes such as the 1956 Olympics theater tracks in Cortina and the Lagazuoi – Cinque Torri – Col Gallina itinerary.
Among the cellars surveyed by Costamoling this year Tenuta Ornellaia stands out, with the tasting of 8 vintages paired with the dishes from the chef Alexander Egger of the Sporthotel Panorama. At this event some wines will be served in three different glasses from the well-known manufacturers such as Zalto, Luigi Bormioli and Riedel. Then there will also be Amarone and Damijan’s white wines. The excursion to the Lagazuoi on the 17th of January is going to be an opportunity to discover the effect that the altitude creates in the of top-quality wines such as Ornellaia, Solaia and Sassicaia, all are of the 2010 vintage. The same wines will also be sampled at the intermediate phases of the skitour just to feel the aromas and flavors that reach their maximum level going down the mountains. For the closing party on Friday, the 18th of January, there will be a dinner at the Stüa Ladina with eight vintages of L’Apparita Castello di Ama, the first pure merlot produced in Tuscany. Special attention will be given to the sparkling wines of the South Tyrol and craft beers paired with typical local dishes.
If you still are not sure how to spend your winter vacation the Wine Cup Alta Badia can become a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the ageless mountains and tasting some of the finest wines of Italy.
