Hair can quickly become dry if we bleach or colour our hair too often. Hair treatments like straightening irons, curling irons or even blow-drying your hair can also have a negative effect on your hair if you do not take good care of it. Unprotected from heat, hair loses water more quickly and consequently becomes dry. This means that moisturising your hair should be a regular part of your hair care routine.

Dry hair – what to do?
First of all, limit any treatments that have a negative impact on your hair’s condition. If you colour or bleach your hair, use products that are as gentle as possible. Limit the use of straighteners and curling irons – frequent use of these appliances, even if they are the latest generation of products, can really dry out your hair. When styling your hair with heat, always apply a heat protectant beforehand. When using a hair dryer, never set it on the highest setting and if you can, keep the heat to a minimum and let your hair dry naturally. Even dry hair can be extended using human hair wigs.
How to moisturise dry hair
In order to moisturise dry damaged hair, it is important to close the cuticles. The easiest way is to rinse your hair in cold water after every shampooing. Rinse with cold water after each washing or use water and vinegar (e.g. apple cider vinegar). It is also important to use the right cosmetics, and a conditioner for dry hair is a must. Flaxseed, shea butter, argan oil and almond oil are some of the ingredients you should look for in such products. Instead, opt for water-soluble products (e.g. dimethicone copolyol, lauryl methicone copolyol, hydroxypropyl polysiloxane) or silicone-free products. After shampooing, you can apply a special oil to your hair but be careful not to overload your hair.
Home Remedies for Dry Hair
Moisturising your hair at home is an effective and inexpensive way to care for it. A great dry hair mask is made from one banana, half a ripe avocado, four tablespoons of natural yoghurt (no sugar!) and a teaspoon of honey. Blend the ingredients into a paste, then apply to hair washed with shampoo for dry hair. After 30-40 minutes, rinse the mask with lukewarm water.
Grandma’s mask for dry hair
The egg yolk and lemon mask for dry hair is a method that our grandmothers already praised. All you need to do is mix an egg yolk with the juice squeezed from half a lemon. Optionally, you can add a few drops of castor oil. Apply the mixture about half an hour before shampooing and rinse with lukewarm water.
Dry dandruff
People who have dry hair may develop dry dandruff. If this happens, make sure that your daily diet includes products rich in vitamins B, A and E. Shampoo three times a week with a shampoo containing an anti-fungal ingredient such as zinc pyrithione, olamine piroctone or ketoconazole. You can also use a natural tar shampoo. On other days, use gentle products for everyday use. If dietary changes and the use of appropriate cosmetics do not help, consult your dermatologist.
This grandma’s way with yolks is good not only for dry hair, but also for a beautiful shine. I used to use it often, now the choice of cosmetics is so large and hairdressing care is so advanced that there are many ways to dry hair.
